Time Away from Work

Taking time off helps you rest, care for your health, and be present for life’s moments. Ensign-affiliated employers provide paid time off for vacation, sick time, and holidays.

Family and Medical Leave (FMLA)

Employees of Ensign-affiliated operations may qualify for job-protected FMLA leave.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must have been employed for a total of 12 months (excluding any seven-year break in service) and have worked at least 1,250 hours in the 12 months before your leave starts.

What FMLA Covers (up to 12 weeks unpaid)

  • Your own serious health condition
  • Care for a family member with a serious health condition
  • Military exigency leave
  • Baby bonding after birth, placement, or adoption

State Leave

Some states offer additional or different leave benefits. Check the Leave of Absence Index for options where you work.

How to Request a Leave

Notice

Please give 30 days’ notice when possible. If 30 days isn’t feasible, notify us as soon as you’re aware of the need.

Submit Your Request

  • Complete the Leave of Absence Request Form

  • Or call Ensign Services at 888-659-3616 to request the forms

When you contact Ensign Services, have ready: your full name, Workday Employee ID, job title, work location, and contact info (including a personal email). You’ll receive written notice of approval or denial.

Benefits During Leave

  • You’re responsible for your share of benefit premiums while on leave.
  • Your employer continues its usual share during protected leave.
  • After protected leave ends, you may be eligible for COBRA for continued coverage.
  • If you don’t return to work at the end of leave, you may be responsible for reimbursing employer-paid premiums during leave.
